CPCC Model United Nations Constitution

Article I: Name

Section 1: Central Piedmont Community College Model United Nations

Article II: Purpose

Section 1: To actively learn about foreign countries, their policies, and their culture while taking part in a hands on learning approach to how the United Nations operates and maintains global stability.

Article III: Composition
Section 1: CPCC Model UN will be composed of CPCC students.
Section 2: Active Members must be currently enrolled and attending classes at Central Piedmont Community College.
Section 3: Active members must be present at least 75% of the meetings and fundraisers.

 

Article IV: Officers Requirements
Section 1:
Elections are held by a secret ballot method at the beginning of every semester. The candidates are listed by name and by the position they are running for. In case of a tie, there will be a floor run-off between the two candidates who had the most votes for that certain position.
Section 2: All officers and officer candidates are to be in good academic standing with the school, maintaining a 2.5 grade point average. They also must be able to preside over every meeting.
Section 3: The President’s term will last a full calendar year from fall semester until the following fall semester.

Section 4: Officer Impeachment procedure is for any member making their case to an executive cabinet member. Then, an officers meeting must take place to decide on impeachment where there must be at least a 2:1 vote. Any unlawful acts are punishable by immediate impeachment by the executive cabinet.
Section 5: The executive cabinet shall consist of a President, Vice President, Secretary, Treasurer and Public Relations Officer.
Section 6: Any cabinet’s vacancies will be voted on as a regular election when the vacancy presents itself.

Article V: Officer Duties

Section 1. President Responsibilities are to directly represent the MUN with the students, community, and the administration and student government. Also, to preside and set a plan of action for every meeting, and make sure it is carried out efficiently with the members. Also, to lead, organize and facilitate business decisions; in a democratic process.
Section 2. Vice President Responsibilities entail moderating every meeting closely to make sure time is used effectively and efficiently. Lastly, assist the President in executive decision making, and to represent MUN in the SGA meetings.
Section 3. Secretary Responsibilities entail, keeping accurate minutes of the meetings, record attendance, and handle all emails, announcements and paperwork, also construct comprehensive email and contact information roster to be distributed amongst members and updated regularly.
Section 4. Treasurer responsibilities entail providing financial accountability to the organization. This includes maintaining bank accounts, keeping accurate balances, providing financial statements for every semester.
Section 5. Public Relations Officer responsibilities entail handling public affairs and promoting club happenings, information and logistics’ per all appropriate local and national media outlets, including our CPCC MUN website.

 

Article VI: Meetings
Section 1: Meeting shall be conducted once per week, and that meeting day shall be set each semester.
Section 2: Special meetings shall be brought up during meetings or by notifying the secretary. After that the secretary then notifies the cabinet.
Section 3: In order for a meeting to be held there must be at least 1 person for each member of the cabinet present.

Article VII: Voting
Section 1: A simple majority vote is required for all legislation.
Section 2: Members who have been present for at least 2 meetings during the month of the proposed legislation.
Section 3: Every proposed bill must have an officer’s signature before it can be eligible for vote.

Article VIII: Method of Amending the Constitution
Section 1: There must be at least one week notice for the president to decide amongst the officers.
Section 2: Proposed ratification’s of the constitution must have a 3/5 majority vote amongst the officers. After passing at the officer’s level, it then goes to the floor to be voted on where a simple majority is needed for passing.
